Good Clean Copy

Who doesn't want their final drafts to be as professional looking as they can be? Yet, that's one tedious task for many people. Maybe, you're one of them. Maybe you're just not all that strong on spelling or punctuation. You know that some things really need a grammar check, but man! All those rules! Who cares? What's the difference, and does it really matter?

Well, it depends. If you're writing sales copy, book proposals, and other such pieces, yes, it probably does. If, however, you're doing personal essays, creative non fiction, and dialogue in stories, probably you can get away with some creative license. Let me help you figure out how much is good to go, and what might need some work.

If you're looking for someone to edit, proofread or critique your work, look no further! I can help you get your short story, essay, or novel ready to publish. Don't leave your precious words hidden away in a drawer!

What happens when you sign on with DWD&E:

  • Each piece gets two thorough readings. One to get the feel of the story and see how it works; whether the characters seem real, their action believable; setting, plotting, etc. The second will be a line by line read to correct the typos, grammar (except where it's character driven), punctuation, paragraph usage, spelling, run on sentences, etc. Light editing means exactly that. Nothing changed in the story except typos, spellings, and glaring grammar errors. Should the story need more than a light edit, suggested changes concerning story structure will be noted within a copy of your manuscript, and you can decide to make them or not as you wish in your own copy.

  • Extensive editing requires more time. Two or more readings of the work will be done as needed. Typos, grammar, spelling, plus story structure flaws will be corrected. The storyline will NOT be affected. However, if something simply doesn't sound quite right, I'll let you know, and suggest options for changes.

  • An honest and tactful evaluation is a guarantee. But sometimes a writer simply needs a lot more practice, and it's difficult to relay the verdict that a piece is unsalable as it is. So, if you're overly sensitive and/or you're writing only for your own pleasure, you might not want to spend the money for outside advice.

  • If you're looking for more than edits; if you're looking for someone to give your in depth help and advice for a work in progress maybe a mentor is what you need. A mentor can encourage an inexperienced writer to work to potential, challenge him/her to do better than s/he thinks possible. Mentoring provides a more personal writing relationship from idea to publication.

  • Please, no horror—I like to sleep at night—or hard core erotica. First come, first served. Turn around time varies according to work load. A confirmation of work received will be emailed to you, and at that time an estimation of time needed to complete the edit will be stated.
